My name is Laurel Bergsma. I am the grade 3 teacher this year. This is my fifth year teaching at Clifford International School, and my thirteenth year teaching in China. I taught in the Clifford Bilingual School for eight years before joining the International Program.
I am a graduate of Trent University in Ontario, Canada. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Political Science. I also have a Bachelor of Education. I have fifteen years of teaching experience. Before coming to China, I taught in South Korea and Spain.
My educational philosophy is centered around developing a child’s natural curiosity to create life- long learners. It is my goal to help develop the critical thinking skills that are so important for success in any endeavor. I encourage my students to take risks, ask questions, explore solutions and think critically. I believe that by developing a growth mindset, my students will become more independent learners.
